About me

Hello, my name is Tanya and I am a scent-addict.  I have a visceral love of fragrance, aroma, smell, perfume, scent – you name it – whatever the thesaurus throws out!  From my first bottle of ‘perfume’ as a child – (‘Heaven Scent’, thanks gran) to more sophisticated but fickle choices during my turbulent teens (White Musk anyone, Anais Anais?), to audacious young adulthood (Poison, Coco, Boucheron, Giorgio Beverly Hills – who didn’t!?) and my current amours,  Prada ‘Iris’ and Frederic Malle ‘Carnal Flower’, the love affair is a long one and knows no end.

The power that a waft of odoriferous molecules can have on my psyche and memory is profound; woodsmoke and bonfire transports me to happy, rambunctious childhood.  The closest thing that mimics that for me is the wonderfully, deep, dark Vetiver – which I inhale on a regular basis, its my portable childhood.   So, to cut a long journey short, I trained as a Clinical Aromatherapist and that aromatic path eventually led me to the study of Natural Perfumery – in which I am a mere stripling, but 5 years into my studying, smelling, experimenting and creating I feel I would like to uncap the bottle and share  my whimsy with a greater audience.

So here goes, I am ‘The Perfume Mistress‘, I offer workshops, talks, private parties and I create solid/oil perfumes and fragrant unctions for body, bath and home.  Join me for thoughts, aromatic musings; recipes; news; events and inspirations on all things FRAGRANT; although my passion lies in working with naturals (essential oils, absolutes etc) I am also inspired by commercial (synthetic!) perfumes and the great fragrance houses (Caron, Guerlain etc).

Enjoy your stay and feel free to join in, ask a question or leave a comment.

Hi My name is Rebecca Apsan and own La Petite Coquette in New York City. I wonder if you ever come to NYC? I would love to have a session with you and buy some scents. Can we speak? Do you have any books on the subject?
    Sincerely yours,
    Rebecca Apsan

    • Hello Rebecca

Thank you so much for contacting me, although I have moved my blog and site to http://www.theperfumemistress.com, which is more up to date!

I have never been to NY, although it has been on my ‘city hotspot’ list so would LOVE to visit some time!

I checked out your store online and love the look of it, which gave me an idea. Is there a possibility of providing a Natural Perfumery session/workshop at your store, whereby you and some of your loyal customers could create their own fragrance – would this be feasible?

If so, I could combine a trip to NY and provide some training at the same time.

Do let me know if this is something that we could make happen.

      Wishing you a sunny Saturday

      Warmest wishes

      Tanya (Moulding)
